Things have been a little crazy for me lately.Back in April I started to experience pain in my right thumb.
This is not totally abnormal as I have had this sort of pain off and on for years ..
I was told that I have tedonitis in that thumb and would have it forever.. Was told to wear a wrist splint for a couple of days when it flaired up and it would get better..if not then see a doctor about it.
Well it has always worked until this year.. So I go to the doctor.. We tried to keep it splinted and tried some anti-inflamatory meds.. That didn't kick it..
So I got sent to a hand specialist.. He started me on physical therapy. Took the x-rays, got the MRI.the pain was in my THUMB and radiated up my arm..
He treated me for tennis elbow.
hhhmm.. Ok.. so my physical therapist tells me that I need to be careful with what I am doing because the way things are in my hand I am shredding my tendons in my hand She looks through my test results and has a FIT.. tells me that we can't do anymore of this that I HAVE to have surgery and she is going to tell the dr that.
She did and the next appointment with him I walked out with an appointment for suregery
Yippy.. Surgery.. that was July..
Surgery for August so kinda a long time to get here.. I was told that I had a pinched nerve on the outside edge of my thumb and they were going to do a scope to see what was going on in my wrist..
Mind you I am still telling them I have troubles in my THUMB
So they do a carpal tunnel procedure, release the trapped nerve in my thumb, and had to remove 2/3 of my TFC because it was all munched up, and had to remove a bunch of gunk that was on my tendons and ligaments. The day after surgery I was told that I definatley had Ulna Impaction Syndrome, that my ulna was 3mm too long, that I had a 3mm gap between two bones in my hand (scaphoid and the lunate) and that I had severe tendon laxity in my hand.
Was told I would HAVE to have another surgery, two procedures, and Ulna Osteotomy and a BLATT. Ulna Osteotomy = going in and cutting the Ulna in half and remove a slice of it and putting the bone back together with a metal plate.BLATT = a surgical procedure that tightens the tendons in your hand.
I was told that I had to let the swelling of THIS surgery go down and then we would get in there and fix this other stuff..Two weeks with a machine that moved my wrist up and down 60 degrees.. then back to physical therapy
WOW.. now the outside of my wrist and arm hurts like crazy.. (never did prior to surgery)two month after surgery I am in tons of pain which I was told was normal post op pain and that I need to be patient.
I kept asking about the second surgery.
I was told that we needed to see if this fixed it.Confused! Prior to the first surgery I was told I was munching up my tendons and such in my hand.. right after surgery I was told that I WAS going to need another surgery because of the way the bones and tendons were. Finally my PT person tells me that I need to have surgery again because everything we were doing was causing more and more pain.
YA THINK!!
By this time I am a little more then stressed, depressed, and torked off. I went for a second oppinion.
